Going to Rome

Acts 19:21-22 “After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. "After I have been there," he said, "I must visit Rome also."”

Reading this verse makes one ask why the apostle Paul wanted to visit Rome. Was it because Rome was like the Washington DC of their time? That maybe he wanted to just go sight seeing to see places like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum? Did he just want to check in a few Rome hotels and live a comfortable life? Or could it be that because, during the time of Paul, Rome was where the seat of power was, he wanted to deliver an important message to its leaders? Reading a few more chapters ahead, it says,

Acts 23:11 “The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, "Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."”

Paul wanted to deliver the gospel to everyone and received specific orders to deliver it to Rome. And when he did go there he didn’t live in different Rome apartments. He was imprisoned for the gospel. That is a man with a mission.
